Job placement.
Apr. 6th, 2006 08:42 pmLet me recount a little story.
When I first moved to my parents' house in December, one of the first things I unpacked in a desperate rush was my computer. My dear little HP Pavilion 6635, the one I'd lugged around in my bedroom for every year of my postsecondary education, vital equipment for writing, music, and the few games I can spare the concentration to play.
I unpacked it, and there was a problem. Only one speaker worked. Sort of. All opening sound effects and the like worked fine in stereo, but as soon as I pulled up my playlist, all of it was yanked to the left. The sound card was fine. I didn't have my wireless hooked up yet, so I couldn't see if there was a driver that suddenly went missing. I tried buying new speakers. Tried fiddling with the balance on the master volume control. Same problem. Only one speaker worked.
So I was going freaking nuts.
Then I noticed that it was just in my WinAmp specifically. I downloaded the most recent version in hopes it would fix the problem.
Same thing. I was going even more nuts.
It was the pointed out to me that maybe the balance in my WinAmp was accidentally skewed by a nudged key when I was setting it up.
... I couldn't find the balance function on my WinAmp skin. So I changed the skin. Found it.
And my speakers worked as good as new. Stereo and everything.
...
It is with that in mind that I announce I am now employed as Internet tech-support-to-be.
Goes to show ya, don't it?
