The Beast of AAAAARGH.
Dec. 28th, 2006 01:20 pmWord of the day, kiddies, is ARGH.
ProtoWulf, my dear and treasured HP Pavilion 6635, is ill. He became infected a few days ago, give or take, and began showing probems when IE began to act crappily. Yes, yes, peanut gallery.... shushup about IE, okay? I defaulted back to Firefox.
It has now progressed to the point that McAfee canot scan, AdAware cannot scan, no browser will open, I'm getting constant notifications of no memory being available, and now I'm getting C++ errors popping up when I try to run any .exe program. HP cannot offer support because it's so damn old.
It isn't pretty. I'm going to be taking it in to Staples a little later on today to see if I can just get a cleaning done... something that'll only run me back about fifty bucks. It might take a full system restore, though.
The good news is that I do keep backup CDs of all my vital files. About 99% of what is not is kept in LJ or Gdocs for safekeeping, and any art that I might have scanned in the last few months since my last backup is also stored in Photobucket, a blessing such as it is. If I have to resort to a system restore, all I'm really losing is my music library of 5300+ songs.
Painful, but minor.
So the news on this front is that I'm not likely going to be very visible for the next week or more. This mainly means via chat, but I'll be checking my Gmail as constantly as I can. Deepest apologies going out to anyone who has open RP scenes with me or other appointments, I'll try to do my best on limited access. As soon as classes start back up on the 4th of January, I'll be able to get my public internet access there, give or take lineups and/or work. However, I'm also getting my wisdom teeth extracted on the 11th, so if I don't have a working computer by then, what you do see of my will be a little bit hopped up on painkillers.
I was planning on getting a new computer in about a year. I'm planning to cross over to the Mac camp, get me one of these... though I can't afford it right about now, period. Final marks STILL haven't been released yet, so I can't get to HR at work to get my tuition reimbursement yet, so I can't start the 4 week long waiting process to be able to afford THIS semester's tuition yet.
I'm considering selling some art. Or doing commissions again. I know that I've opened myself to these in the past and then lost the time or attention to do it, and that is my shame and my own fault. I can't apologize enough for those who did contact me previously and I was unable to fulfill.
I'll be trying to make some kind of picture post in the future of what I do have that I can sell and ship outright.
Sigh. Aplogies again. I'll try lugging old ProtoWulf over to Staples in about an hour and see what can be done.
