Summer Random

So, apparently, there was a state of emergency declared in Lethbridge two days ago. 45 mm of rain fell in only 90 minutes, blowing off manhole covers, flooding streets and underpasses, and generally driving the city to a soggy, river-smelling halt. There’s an estimated two million dollars in residential damage, waterlogged footpaths in the valley, and an only recently-lifted warning on contaminated drinking water.

Frankly, I hadn’t noticed a thing. I mean, yeah, sure, rain and all… thunder and wind and the works, but it wasn’t really that bad where I am (up on top of a river valley and a hill, no flooding, nada, hey! I don’t have to water the lawn!) so I didn’t have the faintest idea that it was so serious until my brother called me late in the evening. My brother who works for the city doing night watering, so boy did he hear about it.

I don’t watch the news aside from the Daily Show, sometimes, or monitor any online news save metaquotes… I don’t even listen to the radio. I would suck so hard at a zombie apocalypse. Knowing me, I’d probably wonder what the weird smell was, light some more pleasant-scented things on fire, and settle down to watch Coupling in the basement.

Mm. I’m an odd person when I’m all alone in a house. I eat variations of macaroni and cheese in the evenings and full, healthy breakfasts when I get up in the morning, humming ‘Stephen’s Exhibition’ and ‘The USS Make Shit Up’ when I take the dog out. I’m getting weirder and quirkier in the void and I don’t even have a webcam.

All the better to make a webcomic with, I suppose.

I wonder what this spells for the time when I’ll be living on my own. Sometime. In the future. With a cat (maybe more than one).

It does give me the opportunity to blast Daft Punk remixes on my mom’s car’s speakers.
