On broadening the mind...

So I'm sitting in my Creative Writing class, scribbling a few notes along to the tune of my instructor's familiar drone. He's going over the suggested guidelines for my portfolio that I have to hand in at the end of the term, tossing out a few ideas as to what we could put in. Notes and responses are good. Characters sketches, verbal or visual, are too. Unifinished things. Finished, polished things. Idea journals. In his words, this is the only class in the university where effort really does count toward your final mark.

And then he mentions that it looks really good in a portfolio if you take risks. Write outside your usual sphere. Change perspectives.

I perk up a bit more.

The suggestion that he gave was that if one was a heterosexual female and submitted a piece of writing from the point of view of a lesbian.

I take a moment to contemplate.

In the time it takes to call to mind my tridirectionally possessed druid guerrilla terrorist, my technically-dead dragon in the body of an elf with brain damage currently enjoying a gay relationship that involves crossing the lines of species and has a lot to do with focusing on physical and mental inhuman fetishes, and my aggressive-submissive sadomasochistic bisexual psychic asshole bastard man-whore, I'm actually writing the snickers into my notes.

God, I love roleplaying.
