Butterfly ...

Today, when I was walking home, something interesting happened.
As I was walking up the driveway, I saw a butterfly. Just lying on the asphalt. It was a painted lady butterfly; we raised them as a class in grade four. Now, this is just odd. It's March, it's Fort McMurray. It's still fairly cool. The snow ony started melting a few days ago.
Aren't caterpillars supposed to come first? Don't butterflies hatch in the late spring and early summer?
How did a butterfly get here?
I picked it up, warmed it, and took a photo of it on the daffodils in the kitchen, just to remember it later. When I took it back outside to put on the fir tree (the warmest one, the closest to the house), it just flew away. I watched until I couldn't see it anymore.
How did a butterfly get here?
It was a beautiful thing, a splash of burning bright color in a drab and slushy day.
